Some of the unique opportunities Lauren will have include: visiting and learning about the Sydney Opera House, the Australian Parliament and the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Center; snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef with a marine biologist; and observing the lives and culture of an Aboriginal colony, among many other exciting adventures.
An Afternoon of Music showcased Lauren playing the piano and flute. Lauren's mother, Erin, played solo and accompanying violin concertos as well as provided vocal accompaniment.
A string quartet, with violinists Emily Yardumian, Marian Anderson, Erin Dawe and cellist Lisa Maurer, played selections from Mozart, Jenkins, and Handel.
Lauren, her brother, Billy, and Erin sang rousing renditions of Do Re Mi and I've Got the Joy.
What a talented family! Lauren was superb on the piano and flute, Billy played accompaniment
on the piano to Oscar the Octopus and A Day at the Carnival (and stole the show), and Erin closed the event with a touching tribute to her daughter and expressed her heartfelt thanks to the audience by singing The Old Irish Blessing.
If you missed the event, it's not too late to make a contribution in support of Lauren's 15-day educational adventure as a Student Ambassador with the Exploring Australia delegation of the People to People Program. Checks can be made out to "Lauren Dawe" and either placed in the collection or dropped off at the church office.
