In 1989 a small group of revelers gathered in the cafeteria of The School of the Good Shepherd to celebrate Mardi Gras and to raise funds for the school.
Over the years, as community participation in the celebration increased, the event outgrew the school cafeteria and moved to the Winchester National Guard Armory.
The School of the Good Shepherd closed in May 2015 but its spirit of service to the community continues in the 28th Annual Good Shepherd Parish Community Mardi Gras Fundraiser.
Proceeds Benefit:
The Good Samaritan Ministries of Franklin County - As it has for over 30 years, Good Samaritan, an ecumenical ministry of nearly three dozen area churches, as well as civic organizations, charitable foundations, and individual benefactors, provides emergency food, clothing, utility and other assistance to our neighbors in need.
The Ministries of Good Shepherd Catholic Church - Proceeds will help support our work in serving both the young and the disadvantaged in our community.
The Linda Bauman Scholarship Fund - Linda’s voluntarism as an active member of the Good Shepherd parish and the Franklin County community exemplified a spirit of service to others. Tragically, in the spring of 2015 Linda died in a plane crash, but her dedication to helping every child discover his / her unique gifts and to serving others, lives on in a scholarship fund that will help a Franklin County student pursue a career in medicine.
